Pacific Emergency Nurse Training (PENT)
& Safe Care In Practice (SCIP)
Vanuatu 2022.
The Pacific Emergency Education team are very excited to get back to face-to-face training now that COVID border restrictions are easing in many countries. Our first stop was Vanuatu to deliver the country’s 3rd Pacific Emergency Nurse Training program and our first Train-the-Trainer for the Safe Care In Practice course.
The PENT was well attended by a wonderful group of nurses, many of whom were newly graduated nurses keen to improve their patient assessment and emergency skills. Complementing the newer nurses were some excellent senior nurses updating their knowledge on emergency nursing. As always we were delighted to see the nurses increased confidence as their knowledge and skills developed during the two weeks. We wish all the nurses well in their careers and hope that we will meet some of them again as future trainers for the SCIP course.
The Safe Care in Practice (SCIP) course is a one day program focussing on the core nursing skills for recognition and prevention of deterioration. The course is designed to be delivered by local nurses and participants for the Train-the-trainer course were selected from PENT programs run in May and December 2019.
Each SCIP trainer received a training resources pack containing:
-
Copy of the slides bound into a manual.
-
Laminated posters in A4 of key teaching points (ABCDE, I-BAR, assessment tools and sepsis).
-
USB containing the slides in powerpoint, posters and course check-list with set-up instructions.
-
A range of simulation scenarios for different settings.
-
A certificate template for course completion
